BONG HITS 4 JESUS

"In 2002 students held up a sign with the words 'Bong Hits 4 Jesus' during the Olympic torch passing in Juneau, Alaska."
The statements the students are making is that they are being offensive to Christians. Is hard to say if they were trying to make more than one statement because they may think they are saying something else then what I think and what other people think. Although I think the main statement the students where making was to offend Christianity. I think the reason the students pick the Olympic torch passing to show their banner is because they knew a lot of people would be watching it and their banner could be see my millions around the world. It was a great place to display the banner because they where going to get a lot of publicity and their statement will be remember by the people who where there. The intended audience is for everyone because the students want to mock Christianity and they wanted the world what they were doing. Well the people that will find the words “Bong Hits 4 Jesus” would be Christians. They would find it offensive because the student’s are making fun of the Christianity believes.

Left Behind, Way Behind

This articles was writing by Bob Herbert. The article is was about how kids are not getting enough education to succeed in college. Bob tell us how bad things are going. He said that "Only about two-thirds of American teenagers (and just half of all blacks, Latino and Native American teens) graduate with a regular diploma four years after they enter high school." He also said that "Of those who graduate, only about half read well enough to succeed in College." he also mention that some of them are not even in the level of math and science required in college. He makes good examples on how these needs to be change. He shows percentages about his argument I think that when you use articles about the argument that you are making it makes the reader understand how bad it really is. I think that the article worked for me because it told me what the problem was and he supported his side of argument with good examples.
I think that the article would of been better if he would of added more examples and also if he would of wrote solutions to the problem. I also think that Bob should of added more percentages to explain how bad this problem it is. Another thing that I would off change would of been to make it a little bet interesting. It was a little boring to read and that made it harder to read it. So I think he should of found a way to make it more enjoyable. I think he should of also compared our education with other countries to show the readers where we stand. Although these are some of the things that I would change the article was written pretty good.

Mother Nature

I was born in Colombia, a country that has beautiful weather. The lowest the temperature got was fifty degrees and the highest it got was seventy-five degrees. When I moved to the United States I first went to California. The weather there was warmer and I enjoyed it a little bit more than the weather in Colombia. One time when I was in California I experienced warm rain. Yes I said warm rain!! When it rained in Colombia it wasn't cold, but it wasn't warm either. So when I experienced warm rain I thought it was interesting that it felt warm while it was raining. Well the whole reason I'm talking about these experiences that I had in the other two places that I have been is because after nine months in California I moved here to Illinois. When I moved here it was the first time I ever saw snow or experienced winter. When I lived in Colombia they showed us movies that had snow in.  They always showed kids playing in the snow and having a good time. This made me want to experience snow someday because I thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world. I still think that is beautiful but something that the movies never showed me was that snow is COLD. Since the day I found out that snow is cold I decided I did not like winter or anything that had to do with it.
This winter has been totally different. I know that it has snowed and it has been cold but not like other winters in the past. Although is winter in my opinion it doesn’t feel like it. This winter has brought sunny days, which has made me enjoy winter very much. Even though I love this weather, I can’t help but ask is this a trick from Mother Nature?

Society Is Dead: We Have Retreated into the iWorld

"It's Narcissus heaven: we've finally put the 'I' in Me." the article that i decide to pick is " Society is Dead: We have Retreated into the iWorld" The article he was about how the world had become part of the iWorld. The iWorld is how are people are so involved in their own world that they are missing the beauty of the real world. Andrew says that most people have their iPods, iPads, and iMacks that we don't pay attention to life around them. Andrew is saying that because we live in the iWorld we have lost a lot of the wonderful things in this world. We missed those random conversations that people have when are we walking around, the birds signing and the nature around us. Now people walk around listening to music, or their faces are stuck in a screen ether in their iPads or iMacks.

He also talks about how iTunes has change the wonderful point of music. In the past music was "something that brought people together, gave them the comfort of knowing that others too understood the pleasure of a Brahms symphony or that Beatles album." No music you can get any time. People don't have to wait for a long time to get songs that they liked now they get it in seconds and we have lost the wonders of learning about the artist and the reason why they wrote the song. Andrew explain his argument really well; his argument in this article is that people need to leave the iWorld that we live in and discovered the beauty of the real world.
